Deadlift: Chains Set-up

Use your webbing loop to set up chains for your deadlift. These pictured are 8” (20cm) Mammut Dyneema Slings used by climbers and purchased at stores like Mountain Equipment Co-op or REI. Leader chain can be used for this instead of the webbing loops but isn’t ideal as it can damage the barbell’s knurling.
- Attach a chain to the sling using a carabiner, then loop the strap around the bar. We recommend trying to place the stitching as close to the first carabiner (as shown below) as it makes the set up a little cleaner.
- Once you wrap the sling twice around the barbell, you will then attach a second carabiner from a second chain.
Depending on the number of heavy chains being used multiple sets can be clipped to the same loop of webbing.
See pages 57 and 50 for the position on the bar the webbing is applied to based on the deadlift stance being used.
